    Here at the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD), one of our primary responsibilities is to conserve, sustainably develop and share the use of Western Australia’s aquatic resources and their ecosystems for the benefit of present and future generations. Fisheries and Marine Officers play a major role in this by ensuring compliance with management rules through law enforcement, community education and liaison with the public.

    We are currently seeking applications from anyone across WA’s diverse community interested in becoming a Fisheries and Marine Officer. Suitable applicants will be placed into an appointment pool which will then be used to fill permanent or fixed term vacancies that arise over the next two years. 

    If offered a traineeship from the pool, you will initially be located in South Fremantle to undertake comprehensive training for 4 months. After successfully completing your training, you will be placed at one of our offices in regional or metropolitan WA.

  • Work related requirement 1: Demonstrated ability to negotiate and resolve conflict whilst engaging in potentially difficult, volatile and stressful situations.
  • Work related requirement 2: Demonstrate sound judgement and model high standards of behaviour
  • Work related requirement 3: Demonstrated literacy and numeracy skills with the ability to present accurate information in a logical and meaningful manner
  • Special requirement: Demonstrated interest in operating small vessels and 4WD vehicles
