The ORA Wellington Community Team is looking for a dedicated Speech Language therapist to work in a community setting. This position is a fixed term position for 12 months to cover Parental Leave. The role is 36 hours per week (0.9 FTE). The team works with people aged 16 and above with acquired neurological and/or age-related conditions and has a strong focus on rehabilitation.

The speech-language therapist is a valued member of our team and the work is both exciting and varied. In this role, you will work collaboratively with our population alongside your allied health, nursing and medical colleagues. Patients may be seen in the community, via Telehealth, or as outpatients.

You will work with people who have a range of personal health conditions and disabilities including people with aphasia, progressive neurological conditions and age related conditions. This role will suit an SLT passionate about rehabilitation, and enabling people to live well with communication or swallowing challenges.

Duties

  • Diagnosis and management of adult acquired communication and swallowing disorders
  • Independent caseload prioritisation and management 
  • Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 3- 4 years clinical practice in a speech language therapy role 
  • Skills in independently assessing, diagnosing and treating a range of complex communication and swallowing disorders in an inpatient and/or community setting 
  • LSVT® certification preferred
  • Experience in instrumental assessment (e.g. VFSS, FEES) 
  • Excellent communication, team working, problem solving and ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated commitment to a culturally responsive, equitable service
