Rio Tinto is looking for someone with a love of ML and AI product delivery to be a part of a growing team of Data-Scientists in the Brisbane Hub of "PACE Analytics", our internal ML and AI community.

    About the role  

    We're looking for a  Senior Data Scientist  to join our Brisbane hub, with a focus on product delivery across a range of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence opportunities.

    Reporting to the  Lead Data Scientist , and working in collaboration with a range of product groups within Rio Tinto, you will have the opportunity to: 

  • Leverage your creativity, delivering on new opportunities for Data Science product delivery in complex, data-rich environments. 
  • Support your project-team in delivering Data Science solutions, from initial hypothesis and technique validation through to monitoring and training strategies. 
  • Mentor and grow your peers in the enterprise, participating in a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and product driven thinking. 
  • Participate in the evolution of our Data Science, Product Quality Management, Assurance, and Knowledge Management processes within the team. 
  • Focus on Safety, Ethics, Cybersecurity, and IP, in the context of both Data Science and the broader Rio Tinto. 
  • Your network in this role consists of Data Engineering, Product Delivery and Cloud Engineering teams within PACE Analytics, and a broader community of end users, subject-matter experts, technical peers, and citizen data scientists in a range of skills and disciplines within Rio Tinto. 

    Your Background  

  • Experience in Data-Science product delivery, with a focus on Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence solutions. 
  • Data exploration, experimentation, analysis, and model development skills in either R or Python. 
  • Experience with some (but not all!) of the common data-science libraries such as Numpy, Pandas, Tidyverse, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn, XGBoost and Spark derivatives. 
  • Qualifications in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or related fields. 
  • A mix of the following could also compliment you in this role: 

  • Experience in mapping mining and refining processes, combined with SME insights, to advanced analytics techniques across a range of industrial and enterprise problem spaces. 
  • Exposure to cloud platforms and remote compute environments and SDKs such as Sagemaker, Databricks, AzureML, Cloudera, and other common infrastructure such as containers, blob stores and database environments. 
  • Awareness of software development practices and life-cycles related to ML and AI.
