Summary of Role

The introduction of the School Improvement Model, including theschool improvement planning cycle and associated resources, hasprovided schools with a set of strategic tools and approaches bywhich to improve literacy and numeracy learning outcomes forstudents. 

To support Education Directors and Portfolios of leaders toembed the various elements of the School Improvement Model in waysthat directly influence the classroom practice of teachers andmaximise learning outcomes for students, the Principal Consultantwill apply their school improvement skills and experiences andinstructional leadership abilities to support school leadersto:

  • Analyse relevant literacy and numeracy data to inform strategic goal and target setting and ensure all teachers use data informed processes that focus on raising learning improvement.
  • Implement high quality performance development and capability building processes to directly impact on teachers’ practice in ways that impact on improved learner achievement.
  • Establish the various sets of quality indicators and success criteria by which learner progress towards strategic learning goals can be gauged.
  • Monitor the implementation of agreed improvement strategies while measuring the school improvement progress against clear success criteria.
  • Undertake comprehensive evaluation processes to establish impact and best inform subsequent annual improvement planning
  • Build strong links between school improvement processes and the implementation of the department’s Curriculum Resources
  • Act upon the recommendations of External School Reviews and particularly establish how they link to school improvement.
  • Qualifications
    Essential – An appropriate tertiary qualification ineducation or related field.

    Special Conditions
    The successful applicant is required to gain a Department of Human Services (DHS) working with children check(WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to berenewed every five years before expiry. A current DHS child-relatedemployment screening will be recognised as a WWCC until it expires.The incumbent will be required to undertake Responding to Risks ofHarm, Abuse & Neglect – Education and Care (RRHAN-EC)full day/online training course every three years.
