The Department of Neurology for the Illawarra Shoalhaven Health District seeks the services of an experienced and well-rounded Staff Specialist Neurologist.

A new position is available for a 0.5 FTE Staff Specialist, to be based at Wollongong Hospital (TWH) and to integrate with our existing ISLHD team of seven Neurologists (6 at TWH, one at Shoalhaven). We seek an experienced Neurologist with a high level of expertise who can demonstrate commitment and capability to deliver Neurology Service within the ISLHD. The Neurologist will provide clinical care to Neurology patients including Stroke patients, at Wollongong Hospital with clinical responsibility including call and outpatient care commensurate with colleagues. The role incorporates scope for subspecialty interest and involves participation in all Neurology Department activities, including both General Neurology, and acute and subacute Stroke on-call roster, at Wollongong Hospital, and clinical consultation service onsite and remotely across the district. The Neurologist will proactively support the development of Neurology services, facilitating a culture of learning and best practice, participating in teaching and clinical governance activity and supporting other service development and research objectives.

Wollongong Hospital is a 500+ bed centre which provides both general and specialty medical and surgical services. The Neurology service includes 24/7 acute stroke assessment via FAST+ team attending call onsite and remote radiology access for Neurologists on call. We work closely with specialised nursing and allied health, Neurosurgery and Neuropsychiatry services, with access to a dedicated Neurology/Neurosurgery ward including 8 bed Neurology High Intensity Unit. We benefit from good junior staff ratios and support of a full suite of medical subspecialties at TWH. TWH has a strong affiliation with the University of Wollongong (UOW) Medical School and further teaching and research opportunities exist through the UOW Graduate School of Medicine. Wollongong Private Hospital is located beside Wollongong Public Hospital, and notable opportunity exists in the area for establishment of private practice.
